Educational Psychology / Unit 2   EDP 0106 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Mixed Methods and Triangulation

Captions available

The idea

Mixed-methods research combines the two approaches, using qualitative work to generate hypotheses and quantitative work to test them, or running both at once.

In practice

Interviews suggest a pattern; a survey then checks whether it holds across the school.

Where people slip

Running both at once is triangulation: when the two agree, the finding is stronger; when they differ, a new question opens.
