Educational Psychology / Unit 11   EDP 1017 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Pacing, Structure and Transitions

Captions available

The idea

Good pacing sets tasks of moderate difficulty, beginning easy and familiar before growing harder; moderate structure directs students without removing their thinking; and transitions go smoothly when materials are ready and students manage themselves.

In practice

Supplies set out in advance turn a five-minute transition into one minute.

Where people slip

Too much structure removes the thinking, and too little leaves students lost.
