Educational Psychology / Unit 11 EDP 1016 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Procedures and Rules
Captions available
The idea
Procedures are conventions for recurring tasks, with more than one acceptable way; rules are standards of personal responsibility, few, positively stated and general enough to cover many behaviors.
In practice
How papers are handed in is a procedure; "respect others' property" is a rule.
Where people slip
The case for student input is stronger for rules than for procedures.
