Educational Psychology / Unit 11 EDP 1021 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Ignoring, Cues and Consequences
Captions available
The idea
Responses rise from ignoring minor, unnoticed behavior, which relies on extinction, to nonverbal cues, to consequences: natural ones that follow on their own, and logical ones that the teacher arranges to fit the behavior.
In practice
Feeling cold after forgetting a coat is natural; cleaning up a spill is logical.
Where people slip
Consequences work when proportionate and understood.
