The idea
Commas separate the parts of full dates, addresses, and titles that follow a name.
In practice
"She died on August fifth, two thousand nineteen, in Ohio"; "Diana Wong, M.D., practices obstetrics"; a city and state take a comma between them.
Where people slip
The comma after the year or the state is easy to forget when the sentence continues.
