The idea
Adding a constant to a function's output shifts its graph vertically: g(x) = f(x) + k moves every point up k, or down for negative k.
In practice
From f(x) = x² to g(x) = x² + 2, the point (1, 1) rides up to (1, 3). Inputs stay put; outputs travel.
