A constant multiple on the input scales the graph horizontally backward: a constant over 1 compresses, a constant under 1 stretches.

g(x) = f(2x) with f(x) = x²: the output 1 now arrives at x = 1/2, since (2 · 1/2)² = 1. Half the width, same heights.
