The idea
The adrenal cortex, an outer layer, produces steroid hormones including cortisol and aldosterone; the adrenal medulla, an inner region of neural origin, produces epinephrine and norepinephrine.
In practice
The adrenal medulla is innervated by sympathetic fibers, releasing hormones on rapid neural command rather than slow signaling.
