ADH and Water Balance

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Antidiuretic hormone, released from the posterior pituitary, increases kidney water reabsorption by inserting aquaporin channels into kidney tubules, concentrating urine and raising blood pressure.

Show

Dehydration raises blood osmolarity, triggering hypothalamic osmoreceptors to increase ADH secretion.

Watch for

Insufficient ADH causes diabetes insipidus, marked by excess urine output, a distinct condition from diabetes mellitus.
