The idea
The cerebral cortex folds into two hemispheres connected by the corpus callosum, each divided into four lobes: frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital.
In practice
A split-brain patient whose corpus callosum is cut can pick up an object with one hand but not name it, depending on the field.
Where people slip
Each hemisphere's functions are largely redundant with the other's, despite some being localized to one side.
