Chloroplasts

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A chloroplast is a double-membrane plant organelle, with its own DNA and ribosomes, that carries out photosynthesis using stacked thylakoids within a stroma.

Show

Chlorophyll in the thylakoid membranes captures light energy, while sugar synthesis happens in the surrounding stroma.

Watch for

Chloroplasts belong to plant cells and some protists only — animal cells never carry them.
