The idea
A seed contains an embryo, seed coat, and reserves; per Bio 2201, monocots store reserves in endosperm absorbed by one cotyledon, the scutellum, while dicots move reserves into two cotyledons.

A peanut's two halves are cotyledons loaded with reserves from digested endosperm.
Where people slip
Monocot seeds are always endospermic; dicot seeds split into endospermic and non-endospermic types by where reserves end up stored.
