Chytridiomycota

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Chytridiomycota, the chytrids, are the simplest true fungi, mostly aquatic, and the only fungal phylum to retain flagellated gametes and zoospores.

Show

The chytrid Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis parasitizes amphibian skin, a factor contributing to declines in frog populations worldwide.

Watch for

Retained flagella mark chytrids as structurally primitive among fungi— every other fungal phylum has lost flagella.
