Glomeromycota

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Glomeromycota is defined by an obligate mycorrhizal partnership with plant roots, reproduces without a sexual cycle, and cannot survive apart from a root.

Show

Nearly all Glomeromycota species form arbuscular mycorrhizae, exchanging soil minerals for plant-supplied carbohydrates through a hyphal structure inside root cells.

Watch for

Unlike most fungal phyla, Glomeromycota's defining criterion is ecological dependence, not a distinct spore structure.
