Asexual Fungal Reproduction

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Fungi reproduce asexually by fragmentation, budding, or producing identical spores by mitosis, dispersed by wind or by riding an animal.

Show

Sporangiospores form by mitosis inside a sporangium; conidiospores pinch off, unenclosed, at the tips of specialized hyphae.

Watch for

Asexual spores are genetically identical to their parent thallus — they introduce no new variation into the population.
