A hypha is a single fungal filament; a mycelium is the interconnected mass of hyphae that makes up a fungus's feeding body.
In practice
The honey mushroom's mycelium spreads underground across a vast area, making it, by extent, among the largest known organisms.
Where people slip
The visible mushroom is only a reproductive structure — most of a fungus's body is unseen mycelium in its substrate.
