ACT Preparation / Unit 22   ACT 2111 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Reaction Rates

The idea

Reactions usually run faster at higher temperature, at higher reactant concentration, with more exposed surface area, and with a catalyst.

In practice

Crushed antacid tablets fizz faster in water than whole ones, because more surface is exposed.

Where people slip

Rate is how fast products form; it says nothing about how much product forms in the end.
