The idea
Density is the ratio of an object's mass to its volume: density equals mass divided by volume, often in grams per cubic centimeter.
In practice
A 40-gram block with a volume of 50 cubic centimeters has a density of 0.8 grams per cubic centimeter.
Where people slip
Density does not depend on sample size: half the block has half the mass and half the volume.
