ACT Preparation / Unit 22 ACT 2117 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Speed, Velocity and Acceleration
Captions available
The idea
Speed is how fast something moves; velocity adds a direction. Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes: speeding up, slowing down or turning.
In practice
A car going from 0 to 20 meters per second in 5 seconds averages an acceleration of 4 meters per second each second.
Where people slip
Constant speed around a curve is still acceleration, because the direction changes.
