ACT Preparation / Unit 2 ACT 0111 short lesson, about 20 seconds
No Comma Between Subject and Verb
Captions available
The idea
A comma never separates a subject from its verb, or a verb from its object, even when the subject is long.
In practice
"Everyone who stayed after the concert, helped stack chairs" wrongly cuts the subject off from helped.
Where people slip
A long subject tempts a spoken pause, but no single comma goes there; only the closing comma of a pair may.
