The idea
Balfour's promise of nineteen seventeen and Britain's mandate brought Jewish immigration, riots and a wartime double promise. Britain handed Palestine to the UN in forty-seven; partition was rejected regionally. Israel declared itself in May forty-eight and won nine months' war; hundreds of thousands of Palestinians became refugees.
