The idea
Ho Chi Minh declared independence in nineteen forty-five; France reinvaded and lost at Dien Bien Phu in fifty-four. America refused the promised elections and propped up the South. After Tonkin in sixty-four Johnson escalated. Nixon withdrew in seventy-three; Saigon fell in seventy-five.
In practice
Over a million Vietnamese dead, the anchor says.
Where people slip
The anchor's "fabricated attack" is attributed; one attack occurred.
