The idea
Nasser nationalized the canal in summer nineteen fifty-six. Israel attacked on the twenty-ninth of October, Britain and France landed on the fifth of November. Eisenhower threatened the pound and demanded withdrawal; Khrushchev threatened rockets. They withdrew, and Eden resigned. The lesson: America now set its allies' limits.
