Captions available

The idea

Enemies were Jews, the disabled and the Romani. Involuntary sterilization began in nineteen thirty-three. The Nuremberg Laws of September nineteen thirty-five stripped Jews of citizenship, barred professions and made sex between Jews and Germans a crime. The first camp, Dachau near Munich, opened within weeks of January thirty-three.

In practice

Kristallnacht, November thirty-eight, the witness adds.

Where people slip

Dachau is named on the witness.
