Jutland and the Blockade
Captions available
The idea
Britain's navy blockaded German ports from nineteen fourteen, and by the last year every German family felt the shortages. The fleets met once, at Jutland in nineteen sixteen; both claimed victory, and the German fleet never came out again. Germany answered with mines and submarines.
In practice
The turnip winter of sixteen to seventeen.
Where people slip
Witness-built; the anchor names neither.
