Britain held a quarter of the globe after nineteen eighteen, the anchor says: a hundred thousand officials over three hundred million Indians. To eighteen fifty-seven the East India Company governed, all the subcontinent by eighteen forty. Its opium went to China, forty percent of India's exports.
