Captions available

The idea

The New Testament was written in Greek, the East's language of state and church. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin, the Vulgate, about four hundred, read in the West until the sixteenth century. The Western Old Testament canon was fixed in fourteen forty-two.

In practice

The Vulgate is witnessed; Jerome's name and the anchor's four ten are not.
