Babylon, Hammurabi's Dynasty, and the Hittite Blow
Captions available
The idea
Hammurabi ruled Babylon from seventeen ninety-two to seventeen fifty B.C.E., a reign the witness dates, and re-centered Mesopotamia on his city. His dynasty lasted until fifteen ninety-five, when the Hittites of Anatolia sacked Babylon.
In practice
Small bureaucracies, frequent rebellion, and horse-riding nomads to the north.
Where people slip
The anchor writes seventeen ninety-two to fifteen ninety-five as one span. That is the dynasty, not the man.
