Western Civilization I / Unit 2   WC1 0111 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Bronze Age System and the Hittites

Captions available

The idea

From about three thousand to eleven hundred B.C.E., four regions traded and fought: Greece, Anatolia, Canaan with Mesopotamia, Egypt. Akkadian was the diplomatic language. The Hittites, from about seventeen hundred, adopted conquered peoples' gods rather than imposing theirs.

In practice

Kings called each other brother; a Hittite-Egyptian treaty split Syria from Canaan.

Where people slip

The Hittites may have carried Mesopotamian learning to Greece, the anchor says.
