Western Civilization I / Unit 2 WC1 0113 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Bronze Age Collapse, 1200 to 1100 BCE
Captions available
The idea
Between about twelve hundred and eleven hundred B.C.E. the Bronze Age system collapsed. Drought appears in Egyptian and Hittite records; the Sea Peoples struck from twelve oh seven; Mycenaean palaces burned. Assyria survived but lost the south to Elam.
In practice
Some Sea Peoples settled in Canaan as the Philistines.
Where people slip
No definitive explanation exists, because the records stop. Greece entered three dark centuries.
