The idea
Paul III's report of fifteen thirty-six admitted abuses, not doctrine, and in fifteen forty-two the Inquisition became a permanent Roman office. Paul IV issued the Index in fifteen fifty-nine and kept the Bible in Latin, since laypeople would misread it.
