Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 4   TSC 088 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Aorta and Its Branches

Captions available

The idea

The aorta arises from the left ventricle, arches, and descends through the chest and abdomen as the thoracic and then the abdominal aorta.

In practice

The abdominal aorta gives off branches including the renal arteries, then divides low in the abdomen into the two common iliac arteries.

Where people slip

Aortic surgery works on the body's largest artery, so vascular clamps are prepared before anyone needs them.
