Cleaning the Tip

The idea
Charred tissue on the electrosurgical tip increases electrical resistance and can cause sparking or ignite the charred material.
In practice
The tip is wiped clean frequently with a sponge; abrasive scratch pads can groove the tip and make build-up worse.
Where people slip
A dirty tip also needs higher power to work, which raises other risks.
