Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 21 TSC 501 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Surgical Staplers
Captions available
The idea
Surgical staplers place rows of staples to join, close or divide tissue, often faster than suturing by hand.
In practice
They are used to rejoin bowel and other hollow organs, to tie off vessels, and to remove specimens; they may be single-use or reloadable, manual or powered.
Where people slip
Staples come in several sizes, so the reload matches what the surgeon requests.
