Anything held below waist level is considered not sterile, including a sterile-gloved hand.
In practice
Scrubbed team members keep their hands above the waist and in front of them, and never let them hang down or rest at their sides.
Where people slip
If a gloved hand drops below the waist, facility procedure decides how the gloves are replaced.
