The idea
An instrument that falls to the floor is contaminated and is not used again until it has been reprocessed.
In practice
It stays in the room until the final count is done; if it is needed immediately, the facility may reprocess it by an approved fast method.
Where people slip
Never pick up a dropped instrument and return it to the field, however clean it looks.
