Unsterile Person Near the Field
The idea
Unsterile team members keep their distance from the sterile field and move around it deliberately.
In practice
Learn the habits that keep the boundary safe. First, unsterile staff do not reach over the sterile field or lean toward it. Second, movement near the field is kept to a minimum and controlled. Third, when passing between the field and a wall or another surface, staff move with their attention on the field. Fourth, the scrub person watches the field and warns anyone moving too close. Fifth, if an unsterile person touches the field, that is a break, handled like any other.
Where people slip
The scrub person is often the only person facing the field at every moment. Warning a colleague who is getting too close is part of the job, not a criticism.
