Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 19 TSC 453 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Strike-Through
Captions available
The idea
Strike-through is moisture soaking through a sterile barrier, such as a drape, gown or wrapper, from an unsterile side.
In practice
Because bacteria travel with moisture, the area within about an inch of the wet spot is considered contaminated.
Where people slip
Splashes on the back table can wick through drapes, so pouring and handling fluids is done with care.
