Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 6 TSC 139 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Dry Heat

The idea
Dry heat sterilization uses hot air, and it is reserved for materials that moist heat would damage or cannot penetrate.
In practice
Powders and oils are examples; dry heat penetrates them and does not corrode sharp instruments, but it is slow and needs high temperatures.
Where people slip
Those high temperatures are unsuitable for most materials, so dry heat is a specialist method.
