Global Commodity Chains
Captions available
The idea
A global commodity chain links workers and firms across borders to produce one product, organized by a multinational corporation conducting business across those borders.
In practice
A product designed in one country, assembled from parts in several others, and supported by workers in another illustrates a global commodity chain.
Where people slip
These chains concentrate wealth disproportionately in core nations and coordinating firms, which conflict theorists emphasize.
