Surface Currents and the Coriolis Effect
Captions available
The idea
Oceans, seventy percent of the surface, move heat from equator to poles by wind-driven surface currents and density-driven deep currents. Surface currents arise from three things: global wind patterns, the Earth's rotation, the Coriolis effect, and the shape of ocean basins.
In practice
Northern Hemisphere currents circling clockwise.
Where people slip
Global winds follow unequal heating; the anchor's wind chapter is unwritten.
