Social Sciences and History / Unit 10   SSH 0930 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Streams, Floods, Groundwater

Captions available

The idea

Streams are the most important agents of erosion and sediment transport. Floods come when precipitation exceeds what ground and channels can carry; flash floods follow brief heavy rain. Groundwater fills pore space; porosity is that share, primary between grains, secondary in fractures.

In practice

Most wells draw from within a hundred meters.

Where people slip

Marsh, swamp, bog: three wetlands.
