The idea
Engagement lets politicians know how people feel, improves lives, and builds connection. Individuals can learn the issues, write their representative, complain at city hall, attend a rally, or vote. Groups can campaign, raise funds, volunteer, or protest an injustice or an unpopular policy.

Representative democracy depends on ordinary people speaking up.
