Captions available
The idea
Islam entered India with Turkic and Arab invaders. The Delhi Sultanate lasted more than three hundred years as Islamic India's center, and because its minority Muslim rulers did not enforce homogeneity, diversity deepened. Muslims joined the Indian Ocean trade early; the south stayed Hindu.
In practice
Caravansaries for travelers; cabotage rights to trade in another's territory.
Where people slip
The exam contrasts Delhi's tolerance with conquest elsewhere.
