Subsistence Against Commercial
Captions available
The idea
Subsistence agriculture grows food only to sustain the farmers and their families, who consume most of it without entering the cash economy. Commercial agriculture produces crops and animals primarily for sale, its objective higher profit. Subsistence survives mainly in rural Africa, parts of Asia and Latin America.
In practice
Agribusiness: production, processing, distribution.
Where people slip
Industrialized agriculture overshadows the traditional forms.
