State

Sound is localized by comparing the timing and intensity of its arrival at the two ears.

A sound from the left reaches the left ear fractionally sooner and slightly louder than the right.

Watch for

Sounds directly ahead and directly behind produce identical cues. Head movement is what resolves them.
