Pain and Nociception

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Nociception is the detection of tissue-damaging stimuli; pain is the experience the brain constructs from that signal and its context.

Show

An injured athlete feels little pain during competition and severe pain within minutes of stopping.

Watch for

Pain is not a readout of damage. Signal and experience can diverge in both directions.
