A synapse is the junction where one neuron's terminal button communicates with the next cell across a narrow gap.

The terminal of one neuron sits fractions of a micron from the dendrite of the next, never touching it.

Watch for

Neurons do not connect physically. The gap is the point, because it is where the signal can be modulated.
