Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 3 MAS 069 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Hormones and Their Receptors
Captions available
The idea
Hormones are chemical messengers carried in the blood, yet each affects only the cells with receptors for it, like a key fitting a lock.
In practice
Many hormones are controlled by negative feedback: when a level rises, the gland reduces its output, and when it falls, output increases.
Where people slip
Tiny amounts of hormone have large effects.
