Two Kinds of Hearing Loss
Captions available
The idea
Hearing loss is conductive or sensorineural.
In practice
Conductive loss happens when something in the outer or middle ear blocks sound, such as impacted earwax or a torn eardrum; sensorineural loss comes from the inner ear, the hearing nerve or the brain.
Where people slip
Earwax blockage is one reason a provider may order an ear irrigation, covered in unit fourteen.
